Rodri Fined £80,000 by FA for Referee Comments

Rodri, a midfielder for Manchester City, has been fined £80,000 by the Football Association (FA) for comments made regarding referee Robert Jones after Manchester City's 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on February 1. In a post-match interview, Rodri criticized the officiating, suggesting it was not neutral, particularly in relation to a controversial goal scored by Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke, which City players believed resulted from a foul on defender Marc Guehi.

Rodri admitted to the charge of acting in an improper manner and acknowledged that his remarks did not meet the expected standards. The FA's regulatory commission determined that a financial penalty was more appropriate than a suspension.

Rodri submitted two letters to clarify his comments, stating he did not intend to question the integrity of match officials. The FA concluded that the £80,000 fine was a sufficient sanction, allowing Rodri to remain eligible to play in upcoming matches.
