FAAN and MTN Launch Free Wi-Fi at Nigerian Airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has partnered with MTN Nigeria to provide free high-speed Wi-Fi services at major international airports, including Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The initiative, launched on Thursday, is part of the federal government's efforts to modernize aviation infrastructure.

Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director of FAAN, and Abdullahi Mahmood Kuku, Director of Airport Operations, highlighted this partnership as a significant milestone for Nigeria's aviation ecosystem. The free Wi-Fi service will initially be available at MMIA Terminal 2 and will expand to temporary terminals and other airports, including Enugu, Port Harcourt, and Kano, within three months.

This project aligns with President Bola Tinubu's digital economy agenda. However, cybersecurity experts have cautioned about the risks associated with public Wi-Fi networks.

The absence of Wi-Fi at Nigerian international airports was attributed to inter-agency rivalry, which this new partnership aims to resolve.
