UNIJOS Graduate Kidnapped After Fake Job Offer

John Arum Azi, a graduate of the University of Jos, recounted his traumatic experience of being kidnapped for 11 days after being lured by a fake job offer in Zamfara State. The incident occurred on April 11, 2026, when he was traveling to Zaria, Kaduna State, believing he had secured a legitimate job opportunity.

Despite feeling suspicious during the journey, his desperation for work led him to ignore warning signs. Upon arrival at a village, he was approached by a man who claimed to be his contact, only to be ambushed by heavily armed kidnappers.

They demanded a ransom of N30 million from his family, using his elder brother's number to make the demand. Throughout his captivity, Azi endured torture and was interrogated about his faith, ultimately being forced to confess his Christian beliefs.

His family negotiated the ransom down to N6 million, but even after receiving the money, the kidnappers delayed his release and demanded an additional N4 million. Eventually, he was freed after several days of captivity, returning home traumatized but grateful to be alive.
