Gumi Urges Non-Kinetic Approach to UNIJOS Kidnapping

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a prominent Islamic cleric, publicly condemned the abduction of University of Jos student John Arum, who was kidnapped by gunmen demanding a ransom of N30 million. Gumi made his remarks in a Facebook post on Thursday, invoking divine punishment on the abductors and emphasizing the need for a non-kinetic approach to address Nigeria's ongoing kidnapping crisis.

He criticized the government's slow response to the situation, warning that failure to act could lead to nationwide protests by students. Gumi argued that 75% of the solution to Nigeria's security issues lies in non-violent measures, including dialogue and religious reorientation, rather than solely relying on military force.

He expressed concern over the inhumane treatment of Arum, whose abduction has drawn significant public outrage, and called for urgent action to prevent further victimization of individuals in similar situations.
