Man Arrested for 11 Years of Impersonating a Lawyer

Ugwumba Francis Enyinnaya was arrested by the Ebonyi State Police Command for allegedly impersonating a legal practitioner and practicing law for over 11 years without qualification. His arrest followed a petition claiming he defrauded Chukwu David of ₦650,000 in March 2026 to facilitate street name approval in Ohaozara Local Government Area.
Enyinnaya presented himself as an experienced lawyer before collecting the money. Police investigations revealed that he had been falsely claiming to be a lawyer.
During interrogation, he admitted he was not a lawyer. A search of his apartment uncovered several items related to his impersonation, including a Nigerian Bar Association seal, a portrait in barrister’s regalia, and fake LL.B. and LL.M. degree certificates from Enugu State University of Science and Technology.
Other recovered items included a barrister’s robe, wig, court judgments, and various legal documents he purportedly prepared. The police have charged him to court.
