Falana Threatens Legal Action Over Judges' Housing Allocation

Femi Falana, a senior advocate and human rights lawyer, has threatened to take legal action against the Nigerian government regarding the allocation of newly built luxurious houses to judges in the Katampe District of Abuja. He described this gesture as discriminatory and contrary to the principle of equality before the law.

In a video shared on Thursday, Falana questioned the legal basis for providing exclusive housing benefits to judges, who are categorized as public servants, while many others continue to face poor welfare and inadequate housing. He expressed disappointment during the handover ceremony, stating that he was unable to identify any law justifying the government's actions.

Falana emphasized that while he does not oppose adequate accommodation for judges, similar considerations should extend to all public servants. He warned that this matter would soon be tested in court, insisting that government policies must comply with constitutional principles of equality.
