Falana Urges Tinubu to Trust Nigerian Military Reports

Femi Falana, a prominent Nigerian lawyer, cautioned President Bola Tinubu against depending on U.S. President Donald Trump's assertion regarding the killing of ISIS commander Abu Bilal al-Manuki.

Falana pointed out that the Nigerian Armed Forces had already confirmed the neutralization of al-Manuki during a joint counter-terrorism operation with the U.S. Falana's comments followed a statement from the Nigerian defense headquarters, where Director of Defense Media Operations Edward Buba detailed the killing of al-Manuki, also known as Abubakar Mainok, along with 50 other combatants between January and March 2024.

The operation was confirmed on February 21, 2024. Falana stressed the need for the Nigerian government to rely on its military's reports rather than foreign claims, highlighting the dangers of misinformation in the fight against terrorism.

He criticized the reliance on external narratives that could undermine local efforts and emphasized the need for the Nigerian Armed Forces to be adequately equipped and supported.
