Family Alleges Police Assault on SEMA Critic in Taraba

The family of Abdulmumin Imam has accused the Taraba State Police Command of assaulting him following his criticism of the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA). Imam was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly failing to honor a police invitation regarding a complaint linked to his social media posts.

His brother, Adam Imam, reported that Abdulmumin was assaulted upon arrival in Abuja and subsequently detained. The police, represented by Victor Mshelizah, stated that the arrest was part of an ongoing investigation and denied any allegations of assault or abduction.

They emphasized their commitment to a fair hearing and urged the public to verify claims made against them. The Director General of SEMA, Audu Echuseh, declined to comment on whether she influenced the police's actions.

The situation has raised concerns regarding human rights and police conduct in Nigeria.
