Activist Abdulmumin Imam Arrested Over Relief Aid Criticism

Abdulmumin Imam, a human rights activist, was reportedly arrested by the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja following a petition filed by Dr. Echuseh Audu, the Executive Secretary of the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA). Imam had publicly questioned the transparency of the relief distribution process intended for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Taraba State.

He alleged that aid meant for low-income residents was not reaching its intended beneficiaries. The police operation to arrest Imam was described as aggressive, with reports of physical assault during the arrest.

Imam's legal counsel, Charl Ud, confirmed that Imam is willing to cooperate with the investigation but requested a rescheduling of the police invitation due to logistical issues, as Imam was not in Jalingo at the time. The situation escalated after Audu voluntarily presented herself to security investigators regarding allegations of diverting relief materials, which had circulated on social media.
