Activist Abdulmumin Imam Arrested Over Relief Distribution

Abdulmumin Imam, a human rights activist, was arrested by the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja due to concerns raised about the distribution of relief materials intended for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Taraba State. The arrest occurred after Imam filed a petition with Dr.

Echuseh Audu, the Executive Secretary of the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), calling for transparency in the distribution process. Imam had previously expressed concerns on social media regarding whether the relief items were reaching the intended beneficiaries.

The police invited him for questioning in connection with allegations of cyberbullying and defamation. A letter from his lawyer, Charl Ud, dated March 30, 2026, confirmed that Imam would cooperate with the investigation at a later date.

The activist was outside Jalingo at the time of the police invitation, which he did not decline. Meanwhile, the Taraba State government has called for an investigation into the allegations circulating on social media regarding the distribution of relief materials.
