Protests Erupt Over UNIPORT Graduate Anthony Obodo's Killing

Protests have continued for three days in Port Harcourt over the alleged killing of Anthony Obodo, a 22-year-old University of Port Harcourt graduate, by police Corporal Alfred Louis at the Ada George-Agip Junction on Thursday, August 27, 2026. Reports indicate that police officers at a checkpoint attempted to flag down Obodo, who was driving a private car, but he allegedly refused to stop, prompting officers to chase him.

During the pursuit, Corporal Louis reportedly fired three shots at Obodo's vehicle, fatally wounding him. The police spokesperson, Blessing Agabe, confirmed the arrest of Corporal Louis and other officers involved.

In response, family and friends of Obodo staged a protest at the incident site, demanding justice and accountability from the police. Protesters expressed their fears regarding police safety and called for the immediate intervention of the Rivers State Government and the Inspector General of Police.

They insisted that the officer responsible must be publicly paraded to ensure transparency in the investigation.
