UNIPORT Graduate Anthony Obodo Allegedly Killed by Police

Anthony Obodo, a 22-year-old graduate of the University of Port Harcourt, was allegedly killed by police officers in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. His father claims the officers had abandoned their duty post at a Nigerian Bar Association conference before the incident.

Protests demanding justice for Obodo have entered their third day, with demonstrators gathering at the Ada George-Agip junction where the shooting occurred on Thursday, 27th August 2026. Reports indicate that Obodo was driving a private car when police flagged him down for not stopping.

Following a chase, an officer allegedly fired three shots, one of which struck Obodo, who later died in the hospital. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Blessing Agabe, identified the shooter as Corporal Alfred Louis, who, along with other officers, has been arrested.

Protest leader Charles Chukwu called for intervention from the Rivers State Government and police authorities, demanding justice and accountability for the officers involved.
