Aguiyi-Ironsi Family to Hold 60th Memorial Anniversary

The family of the late Major General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, Nigeria’s first Military Head of State, is set to hold his 60th memorial anniversary on July 29, 2026, in Umuahia. The event will take place at the Aguiyi-Ironsi Tomb Site and will include a wreath-laying ceremony.

Thomas Aguiyi-Ironsi, son of the late general and a former Minister of State for Defence, stated that the anniversary serves as an opportunity for the nation to honor Aguiyi-Ironsi's contributions to national unity and development. Additionally, a memorial mass for Lady Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi, who passed away on August 23, 2021, at the age of 97, will occur on August 2, 2026, at St.
