Leaders Call for Unity at Aguiyi-Ironsi Memorial Event

On the 60th anniversary of Major General Johnson Thomas Umunnakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi's assassination, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Minister of Defence General Christopher Musa (Rtd), former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and Abia State Governor Alex Otti gathered at the Aguiyi-Ironsi Conference Centre in Umuahia. They called for renewed national unity, patriotism, and selfless leadership.

Tinubu praised Aguiyi-Ironsi as a disciplined soldier whose leadership aimed to restore stability and safeguard Nigeria's sovereignty. Obasanjo and other leaders emphasized the importance of honoring national heroes to inspire future generations.

Governor Otti described Aguiyi-Ironsi as a symbol of courage and urged Nigerians to transcend ethnic divisions for a common national destiny. Louisa Aguiyi-Ironsi, delivering the family citation, highlighted her father's commitment to discipline and meritocracy in the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The event served as a solemn reflection on sacrifice, justice, and peace.
