Clashes in Libya Football Match Lead to Injuries, Arson

On Thursday, clashes occurred during a football match in Tarhuna, Libya, approximately 80 kilometers south of Tripoli, leading to several injuries among fans. The match featured Al Ittihad SC from Tripoli and Asswehli SC from Misrata and was held behind closed doors.

Tensions escalated when Al Ittihad's players protested a penalty kick awarded during the game, which they believed was unjust. Following the match, violence erupted outside the stadium, prompting security forces to intervene.

In the aftermath, a government building associated with the Libyan Presidential Council was set ablaze in Tripoli, an act described as sabotage and arson. The fire was quickly contained.

The Presidential Council condemned the violence and called for an investigation into the incident, expressing a need to address feelings of injustice through legal means rather than violence.
