Clash in Gwagwalada Leaves Three Dead, Properties Destroyed

A clash between farmers and herders in Paikon-Kore community, Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), resulted in at least three deaths and several injuries. The confrontation began on Saturday afternoon and continued into Sunday morning, leading to the destruction of shops, houses, and other property.
The immediate cause was an alleged intrusion of cattle into a groundnut farm, which escalated after the farm owner confronted the herders. A resident, Danlami Ibrahim, reported that a herder attacked a farmer with a cutlass, severing his hand, which incited further violence and led to the deaths of three herders.
Injured individuals were taken to medical facilities, including Sabon Nakowa Hospital and the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital. Mohammed Usman, Secretary of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), confirmed the deaths and stated he was gathering more information on injuries.
In response to the violence, security personnel, including soldiers and police, were deployed to the area to restore order. The Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Kasim Mohammed Ikwa, visited the community and condemned the violence.
