Three Herders Killed in Plateau Community Attack

On Saturday, three herders—Garzali Shaibu (18), Bashiru Yakubu (14), and Salim Abubakar (15)—were killed in a Plateau community while tending to their cattle. Approximately 50 cattle were also reportedly killed during the attack.

The funeral prayer for the victims was conducted on Sunday at Mangu Central Mosque, led by Chief Imam Jibrin Ahmad Dalhat, and the victims were buried at Mangu Cemetery. Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, the state chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), condemned the attack, labeling it unprovoked.

At the burial, MACBAN Secretary in Mangu, Muhammad Salihu, urged the youth to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands. He called on the government and security agencies to address the ongoing killings of herders and destruction of property, noting that herders in the area had faced more than 11 attacks.

Security personnel present at the burial encouraged the community to maintain calm as investigations into the incident continue.
