Gunmen Kill Three Herders and 50 Cattle in Plateau
In a recent attack in Plateau State, gunmen killed three herders and 50 cattle. The victims, identified as Garzali Shaibu (18), Bashiru Yakubu (14), and Salim Abubakar (15), were attacked while tending to their cattle.
This incident occurred a day after another herder, Yakubu Ishaku, was reportedly killed near the Nyerwe community in Barkin Ladi LGA. Hashimu Yahaya, Coordinator of the Fulbe Fulani Development Association in Mangu LGA, condemned the attack as brutal and unprovoked, stating that the herders were peacefully engaged in their activities when the gunmen opened fire.
Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, the state chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), echoed these sentiments, calling for calm among herders and urging security agencies to investigate the incident. He emphasized the need for justice for the victims.
As of press time, Captain Polycarp Oteh, spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, had not responded to inquiries regarding the attack.
