Abayomi Fasina Advocates Policy Stability in Nigerian Universities

Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), stressed the significance of policy stability in Nigerian federal universities to ensure sustained reforms and competitiveness in the global higher education landscape. In his valedictory lecture marking the end of his five-year tenure, Fasina highlighted the achievements of FUOYE under his leadership, including the completion of 160 infrastructure projects and the establishment of new faculties and academic units. He emphasized the need for transparent leadership, institutional autonomy, and adherence to due process to stabilize universities amidst internal and external pressures.

Fasina's tenure also saw FUOYE's transformation into a multi-faculty institution, expansion of academic programs, and increased revenue generation. He advocated for the adoption of long-term strategic plans and endowment-driven funding models to reduce reliance on government subsidies. Victor Ndoma-Egba, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of FUOYE, commended Fasina for his disciplined administration and commitment to institutional governance.
