Kaduna State Accelerates Nnamdi Azikiwe Bypass Completion

In response to a concerning increase in fatal accidents along the Nnamdi Azikiwe Western Bypass, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has directed the immediate acceleration of the project's completion. The bypass, a 21.5-kilometer expressway stretching from Command Junction to Mando Roundabout, was initially awarded in 2021 but has faced delays due to funding constraints and logistical challenges.

Currently, 19 kilometers of the project have been completed, with a deadline set for December 2026. Governor Sani convened an emergency stakeholders' meeting, which included officials from the Federal Ministry, the Federal Road Safety Corps, traffic law enforcement authorities, contractors, and transport unions, to address safety concerns.

The meeting highlighted the need for a multi-agency task force to monitor construction progress and enforce safety measures, particularly during the rainy season. The project aims to alleviate traffic congestion in Kaduna metropolis by diverting heavy-duty transit vehicles away from the city center.
