Reps Push for Safety Infrastructure on Kaduna-Zaria Highway

The House of Representatives has initiated a motion, sponsored by Hussaini Moham Jallo, to address the alarming frequency of accidents on the Kaduna–Zaria highway. Jallo emphasized the road's passage through densely populated communities, including Rigasa, Bakin Ruwa, and several junctions and parks, which increases human and vehicular traffic.

The absence of pedestrian infrastructure poses significant safety risks, particularly for schoolchildren and elderly traders. The motion urges the Federal Ministry of Works to urgently review ongoing projects to incorporate pedestrian bridges and flyovers at identified high-risk points.

Furthermore, it calls for collaboration with the Kaduna State Government to ensure that safety infrastructure is fully integrated into federal road projects within the state. The House also requested the Federal Road Safety Corps and Kaduna State traffic law enforcement authorities to intensify public awareness campaigns and provide temporary pedestrian crossings until permanent structures are completed.

A committee has been mandated to conduct spot assessments of the highway and report back within four weeks.
