Fayose Links Blackouts to Increased Birth Rates in Nigeria

Ayodele Fayose was inaugurated as the Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) after being appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in July 2026, along with 25 other heads of Federal Government agencies and commissions. In a video shared by ARISE News, Fayose commented on the impact of electricity shortages in Nigeria, stating that the lack of electricity is forcing residents, particularly men, to go to bed early and engage with their wives due to limited recreational options at night.

He argued that addressing the country's electricity issues would enhance nightlife and provide alternative recreational activities, encouraging people to spend more time outdoors. Fayose remarked, “After 7 o’clock, it gets dark there.

Everybody is engaging their wives. And the population simply becomes double,” highlighting the direct correlation he sees between electricity availability and population growth.
