Fayose Links Electricity Shortage to Population Growth

On Friday, Ayodele Fayose, the former Governor of Ekiti State, made remarks regarding the impact of electricity shortages in rural communities during his inauguration as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) board in Abuja. He stated that the absence of electricity leads to early bedtimes and limited recreational activities, which he believes contributes to increased population growth.

Fayose noted that after 7 PM, darkness confines residents to their homes, leading to increased interactions among couples. He argued that improving electricity access would encourage nightlife and provide alternative recreational options.

Fayose was sworn in alongside other board members, including Ahmadu Abubakar and Ilyasu Makinta, by the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe. Abba Aliyu was also installed as the agency’s Managing Director.

The REA is tasked with expanding electricity access to underserved and unserved communities across Nigeria.
