FBI Seeks to Block Release of Wiretap Records on Tinubu

Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C., a lobbying firm, has claimed that a recent FBI court filing references sensitive wiretap material connected to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu. The FBI requested the court to prevent the disclosure of these recordings, which are part of an investigation into heroin trafficking involving several individuals.

The firm interpreted the filing to suggest that Tinubu could be heard on these recordings. The FBI invoked FOIA Exemption 3 and Sections 2510–2520 of Title 18 of the US Code to protect the identities of individuals targeted for interception and the information obtained through the wiretaps.

The firm speculated that Tinubu is the only living individual targeted in this case and urged the court to reject the FBI's request, asserting that the American public and Nigerian citizens deserve access to the recordings if Tinubu is indeed implicated. This development is part of an ongoing Freedom of Information Act case concerning records related to Tinubu.
