FCCPC Resumes Digital Lending Regulations After Court Ruling

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has resumed the implementation of digital lending regulations, which are set to take effect in 2025. This follows a judgment delivered on July 20, 2026, by Justice L.
Allagoa of the Federal High Court in Lagos, which dismissed a suit filed by the Wireless Application Service Providers Association of Nigeria Ltd (WASPAN). The court upheld the validity of the regulations and discharged an interim ex parte order that had previously restrained the FCCPC from enforcing them.
Mr. Ondaj Ijagwu, the Director of Corporate Affairs at the FCCPC, stated that the commission will continue to uphold the rule of law and fulfill its statutory responsibilities in promoting responsible lending and improving regulatory accountability. The regulations are designed to curb unfair practices and strengthen consumer protection in Nigeria's digital lending market, ensuring financial inclusivity within a transparent regulatory framework.
