FCCPC Urges Bakers to Prioritize Quality and Safety

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has called on bakery and confectionery operators to uphold quality standards in their production processes, stating that economic pressures should not justify compromising consumer health and safety. Mr.

Bello, the Executive Vice Chairman of the FCCPC, delivered this message during a stakeholders’ engagement in Lagos, represented by Dr. Olubunmi Otti, the South-West Zonal Coordinator.

Bello emphasized that businesses must not resort to unsafe substitutes, harmful additives, or poor hygiene practices in response to rising input costs. He insisted that operators must accurately label their products, ensuring that all information regarding ingredients, production dates, and shelf life is truthful and compliant with the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA).

The FCCPC prohibits misleading representations in marketing goods and services. The forum aimed to facilitate dialogue among stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulations and protect consumer interests.
