Nigerian Youths Demand Transparency in FCT Elections

Ahead of the FCT Area Council elections scheduled for Saturday, Nigerian youths, led by Mr. Emmanuel Obiabo, organized a peaceful march to submit citizens' demands to candidates and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

They called for open budgeting and proper management of local government funds, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability. The youths lamented the Supreme Court's judgment granting full autonomy to local governments, which has not been effectively implemented across the 36 states.

They demanded that local government chairmen adopt transparent budgeting practices and ensure that funds allocated to local councils are tracked and reported. The march highlighted the importance of local governments in delivering essential services such as primary healthcare and education, urging for routine maintenance of roads and waste management systems.

The youth emphasized that local governments are the closest tier of governance to the people and must be held accountable for their actions.
