Abuja Court Bars NLC, TUC from Planned Protest in FCT Amid Legal Battle

The Industrial Court in Abuja, under Justice Emmanuel Danjuma Sibilim, has issued an order restraining the NLC, TUC, and three other entities from embarking on a planned protest in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The court's decision came after an application by the Ministry of FCT against labor union leaders, including Comrade Benson Upah and Stephen Knabayi, on February 2.

The court granted an interim order to prevent the unions from going on strike pending further hearings. The legal battle stems from a violation of a previous court order by the labor unions, leading to a series of legal actions and counteractions.

The matter has been adjourned until February 10 for further proceedings. The Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) has been at the center of the dispute, with directives issued regarding strikes and protests, leading to concerns about potential disruptions and lawlessness in the FCT.
