Nigerian Labor Unions Defy Court Order to Protest in FCT Despite Police Warning

Labor unions, including the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), are proceeding with a protest in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) despite a court order barring industrial action. The FCT Police Command has expressed apprehension over the protest's potential hijacking by unauthorized entities.

The Nation Industrial Court issued an interim injunction against the NLC and TUC, restraining them from embarking on any industrial action. The Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) has directed workers to return to work following the court order, which suspended a strike orchestrated by employees.

The FCT Police Command has urged for the protest to be rescheduled for public safety reasons. The protest stems from unresolved worker grievances and a policy affecting workers' pay, with the court intervening to prevent further disruptions.
