FCT Police Arrest Vandals for Theft of Public Infrastructure

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command arrested four suspected vandals—Godwin Aja, Mustapha Nasiru, Ibrahim Garba, Abdulrasheed Sale, and Dabarani Mujitafa—over the alleged theft and destruction of public infrastructure in Abuja. The items stolen included drainage covers, solar street lights, armoured high-voltage electricity cables, and internet communication cables, valued at millions of naira.

FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, stated that these criminal activities have not only sabotaged the economy of the Federal Capital Territory but have also posed significant safety risks to residents. The destruction of government assets has led to increased road traffic accidents, pedestrian injuries, and rising street crime in poorly lit areas.

The police conducted coordinated operations across various locations, including Maitama, Garki, Durumi, Jabi, Apo Legislative Quarters, Lugbe, and Nyanya, recovering several exhibits. Sanusi warned against the purchase and distribution of stolen public infrastructure and emphasized ongoing investigations to dismantle the criminal network.
