APC Candidate Challenges PDP's Gwagwalada Election Victory

Yahaya Usman, the APC candidate, has officially challenged the victory of Moham Kasim from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the Gwagwalada Area Council chairmanship election held on February 21, 2026. Usman filed a petition with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), contesting the declaration of Kasim as the winner, who received 22,165 votes against Usman's 17,788 votes.

The petition seeks to nullify the election results on three major grounds, including allegations of non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and claims of corrupt practices. Usman argues that there were widespread irregularities involving electoral officials, including the alteration of results in at least six polling units.

He highlights issues such as inflated vote counts, improper accreditation of voters, and discrepancies in the recorded votes exceeding the number of accredited voters. The petition urges the tribunal to invalidate the election results and determine the rightful winner according to the law.
