Soldiers Block Abuja Entry Points Amid Council Elections

On February 21, during the council elections coinciding with the fourth day of Ramadan, soldiers blocked entry points to Abuja, causing significant disruptions for travelers. Heavy-duty trucks and buses were stopped at military checkpoints, particularly near Dei Dei Junction and Dantata Junction.

Haliru Abdullahi, a truck driver, reported that he was halted at 7:30 AM while traveling from Kaduna to Abuja, expressing frustration over the unexpected military presence. Kelechi Sundai, another driver, noted that they were not allowed to proceed until reaching Zuba.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is overseeing the elections, which have drawn attention due to the coinciding religious observance. The situation has raised concerns among travelers who were not informed about the military's actions, leading to confusion and delays.
