IGP Orders DPO Redeployment Ahead of FCT Elections

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has mandated the redeployment of Division Police Officers (DPOs) throughout the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in anticipation of the area council elections set for Saturday, February 21, 2026. This directive was confirmed by the Commissioner of Police for the FCT, Miller Dantaway, as part of a proactive measure to enhance security arrangements and maintain professional standards during the electoral process.

The FCT Police Command, through spokesperson Josephine Adeh, emphasized the importance of professionalism and dedication among the DPOs in executing their duties. Additionally, the public has been advised to remain peaceful and law-abiding while actively participating in the democratic process.

The police will implement movement restrictions across the FCT from 8:00 PM on February 20, 2026, to 6:00 PM on February 21, 2026, except for essential services. Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
