Atiku Abubakar Critiques Tinubu's Impact on Democracy

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, expressed grave concerns regarding the state of democracy in Nigeria under Bola Tinubu's administration. Following the local government elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which saw a voter turnout averaging below 20%, with some areas like the Abuja Municipal Area Council recording a shocking turnout of only 7-8%, Atiku lamented the implications for civic participation.

He described the current political environment as toxic, marked by intimidation and harassment of dissenting voices, which he believes is systematically weakening opposition. Atiku emphasized that the low turnout reflects a broader apathy among voters and warned that if the government continues unchecked, it could cause irreparable damage to the democratic fabric of the nation.

He urged opposition parties to unite and present a cohesive front to combat these challenges to democracy.
