FCT Residents Demand More Parking in Abuja Markets

Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have voiced their concerns regarding the insufficient parking spaces in public markets across Abuja. A visit to Wuse Modern Market revealed heavy traffic congestion, with motorists required to pay N300 for cash and N400 for POS transactions to enter.

Traders occupy most parking spaces before 9 am, leading to disputes among motorists and with security officers. A trader named Ugochukwu suggested that the market management could create additional parking spaces.

A motorist expressed frustration over delays caused by blocked vehicles, questioning the FCT Administration's use of parking fees. Efforts to obtain comments from Wuse Modern Market management were unsuccessful.

At Garki Model Market, traders noted that parts of the parking area have been converted into a construction site, driving customers to other markets. In Nyanya Market, Dede Agana highlighted that the limited parking space is particularly inadequate on Wednesdays, the main market day.
