FCT Residents Demand More CNG Buses for Transport Relief

Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have called on the federal government to increase the number of compressed natural gas (CNG) buses to alleviate ongoing transport challenges. This plea was made during a discussion in Abuja on Sunday, where it was noted that the current number of CNG buses is inadequate to meet the commuting needs of the population.

Although the government has initiated efforts to provide CNG buses, including the inauguration of a presidential CNG initiative in October 2023 aimed at promoting cleaner and cheaper public transport, the delivery has not met expectations. The FCT Administration, in partnership with the private sector, aims to deploy thousands of CNG buses and tricycles nationwide.

However, commuter Mr. Grace Samuel expressed that the limited number of buses fails to ease the pressure on public transport, often forcing passengers to wait long hours.

Additionally, Mr. Ibrahim Musa highlighted that the fare charged for CNG buses does not significantly differ from conventional commercial vehicles, leading to minimal impact on commuters.
