FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Addresses Workers' Strike, Emphasizes Dialogue Over Blackmail

Minister Nyesom Wike of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) addressed the ongoing strike by FCT workers, expressing openness to dialogue but rejecting blackmail tactics. The strike, which led to a court order for workers to resume duties, stemmed from demands beyond legitimate entitlements.

Wike highlighted the government's recognition of workers' rights but emphasized the need for demands to be reasonable. He clarified that the administration had initially opted for dialogue before resorting to legal action due to perceived political interference in the strike.

Wike disclosed financial challenges faced by the FCT, receiving only 10% of federal revenue despite high salary obligations. He warned workers of disciplinary actions if they failed to resume work and emphasized the importance of abiding by the law.

The Minister also outlined reforms in the FCT, including the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission and other administrative improvements.
