FCTA Workers Resume Strike Despite Appeal as Wike Warns of Court Ruling

FCTA workers, under the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC), have resumed an indefinite strike that began on January 19 due to unresolved welfare issues. The strike continued despite an appeal ruling by the National Industrial Court to suspend the industrial action.

The workers, represented by their lead counsel Femi Falana, filed an appeal against the court's ruling on January 27, leading to an adjournment of the matter to March 23. The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have issued a joint communiqué supporting the workers' right to strike until negotiations with the FCT Minister are successful.

Meanwhile, Governor Nyesom Wike cautioned that filing an appeal does not automatically stop the court's order, emphasizing the importance of dialogue over litigation in resolving labor disputes.
