FEC Approves Reconstruction of Carter Bridge in Lagos

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has ordered the total reconstruction of the Carter Bridge in Lagos due to significant structural failures identified through extensive technical investigations. Minister of Works, David Umahi, disclosed this decision during a meeting chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The project, which will cost N548.98 billion, aims to expand the bridge from 1.525 kilometers to 1.93 kilometers and incorporate modern flyover ramps to alleviate chronic congestion. The reconstruction is deemed the safest and most sustainable option following assessments conducted over the years, including studies from 2013 to 2019.

The contract was awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) after a competitive bidding process involving major construction firms. Additionally, FEC approved ten other major road projects across various regions, emphasizing the government's commitment to modernizing Nigeria's transport infrastructure.
