Nigeria Launches Modern 500-Bull Abattoir in Jos

The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has officially broken ground on a modern abattoir in Jos, Plateau State, designed to process 500 bulls per day. The Minister of Livestock Development described the project as a landmark investment that will modernize Nigeria's red meat value chain, strengthen food safety standards, and create thousands of job opportunities.

The abattoir is expected to significantly improve food safety through modern veterinary inspection systems and hygienic slaughter processes. It will also operate as an integrated livestock processing center, transforming by-products into valuable industrial inputs.

The project is anticipated to generate between 7,000 to 10,000 direct and indirect jobs across various sectors related to livestock. The Minister emphasized the importance of partnerships among government, investors, and stakeholders to develop a robust livestock supply system.

The abattoir aligns with the Federal Ministry's mandate to enhance the livestock industry and is part of the national livestock growth strategy aimed at supporting economic growth and public health.
