Fela Kuti Inducted into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Fela Anikulapo Kuti, the iconic afrobeat pioneer, has been posthumously inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, marking him as the first African to achieve this prestigious honor. This recognition places him in the Early Influence category alongside notable figures such as Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Gram Parsons, and Celia Cruz.

The announcement was made during a broadcast of American Idol, where the full list of inductees was unveiled. The induction ceremony is scheduled for November 14 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.

Additionally, Nigerian-born British singer Sade Adu is set to perform in the same category. Despite earlier nominations, several global artists, including Shakira, Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, and Pink, were not included in this year's final selection.

The selection process involved 1,200 voters, comprising musicians, historians, and industry professionals. This latest honor follows Fela's posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, further solidifying his influence on Africa's celebrated music figures.
