FESTAC Residents Plan Protest Over Demolished Fence

Residents and stakeholders in FESTAC Town, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos State, represented by the group Bring Back FESTAC, have threatened to protest at the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) headquarters in Abuja. This follows the alleged demolition of a section of a perimeter fence that protects power infrastructure serving the estate.

The residents claim that FHA officials, accompanied by armed policemen, demolished a large part of the fence and removed the estate’s gateway, lights, and other installations. Valentine Uduebo, President of Bring Back FESTAC, stated that the residents are planning a peaceful protest to demand explanations regarding the demolition.

Residents assert that the fence had existed for years and dispute claims that it was recently constructed. They also raised concerns about the alleged sale of public utility spaces.

In response, FHA spokesperson Kenneth Chigelu stated that the demolition was lawful and that a contravention notice would have been issued prior to the action.
