Abia Women Urged to Embrace Empowerment Programs

During the Abia Women August Delegate Conference (AWADEC) 2026, Professor Ursula Ngozi-Akanwa, Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, encouraged Abia women to leverage state empowerment programs to thrive in their businesses. The conference's theme, ‘Abia Women: Empowered to Thrive’, reflects a four-year initiative aimed at educating women on business growth.

Ngozi-Akanwa commended Mrs Priscilla Otti, the wife of the Governor of Abia State, for her efforts in women's development, including flagship programs like the Dignity Homes Initiative and skills acquisition. She also praised Governor Alex Otti for fostering an enabling environment through investments in infrastructure and various empowerment programs.

Ngozi-Akanwa urged women to take ownership of their empowerment, support each other, and strive for success rather than mere survival. The event was attended by the governor's wife, representatives from the Ministry of Women Affairs, traditional rulers, and women leaders from all 17 LGAs of Abia State.
