CLEEN Foundation Advocates for Gender Inclusion in Nigeria

The CLEEN Foundation, a justice reforms organization, called for the implementation of gender-responsive policies and institutional practices to enhance gender equality and women's participation in governance. During a three-day dialogue in Owerri, Executive Director Peter Maduoma highlighted Nigeria's existing frameworks, including the National Gender Policy and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act.

However, he noted that translating these policies into practice faces challenges such as weak institutional ownership, limited resources, and inadequate data. The dialogue aimed to create a multi-stakeholder platform to examine how gender-responsive frameworks are being integrated into institutional policies and practices.

Nkechinyere Ugwu, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, emphasized the state's partnership with CLEEN Foundation to promote women's protection and inclusion. The dialogue seeks to foster accountability and action planning among stakeholders to advance gender-responsive policies.
