Nigeria Calls for Stronger Africa-Brazil Livestock Partnership

On July 28, 2026, during the 9th Africa Agriculture Science Week (AASW9) and the 10th Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) General Assembly held in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, advocated for a stronger Africa–Brazil partnership. He emphasized the need for deeper collaboration in science, research, innovation, and livestock development to enhance food security and productivity in Africa.

Maiha highlighted the shared ecological conditions and agricultural resources between Africa and Brazil, citing Brazil's successful transformation of the Cerrado as a model for agricultural advancement. He stressed that Africa has the necessary land, human capital, and climate to replicate such success through strategic investment and innovation.

The Minister identified livestock development as crucial for cooperation, aiming to improve productivity and livelihoods for millions of livestock producers. He noted that collaboration would facilitate technology transfer and promote climate-smart livestock production, ultimately building resilient food systems for the continent's future needs.
