Africa's Agrifood System Needs Stronger Partnerships

On July 30, 2026, during the closing session of the 9th Africa Agriculture Science Week and 10th General Assembly of the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) in Abuja, Sen. Dr.

Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, Nigeria's Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, called for proactive partnerships among African nations to strengthen the agrifood system and achieve food security. He urged governments, research institutions, development partners, and the private sector to translate commitments into actionable steps.

Abdullahi highlighted the importance of science-driven partnerships for sustainable agricultural development and climate resilience. He noted that the four-day event showcased Africa's commitment to leveraging science and innovation for agricultural transformation.

The Minister praised FARA's role in fostering collaboration among various agricultural stakeholders and acknowledged the newly elected Board of Directors for their governance. He stressed the need for sustained momentum from the Assembly's outcomes to create measurable impacts in the agricultural sector across Africa.
