FG Supports Trade Malpractice Committee for Economic Growth

On June 25, 2026, in Abuja, Sen. George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, announced the Federal Government's renewed commitment to support the Presidential Committee on Trade Malpractice (PCTM).

This initiative aims to address trade irregularities as part of a broader strategy to promote economic growth and support local production, thereby creating job opportunities. Akume received members of the PCTM, led by its chairman, Malam Dahiru Ado Kurawa, who assured that the committee is dedicated to eliminating trade malpractice and plugging revenue leakages.

The committee has conducted extensive investigations into allegations of unfair trade practices within Nigeria's free trade zones, particularly concerning foreign companies exploiting regulatory loopholes. Akume emphasized the importance of credible data for effective policy formulation and decision-making, while also calling for greater public awareness and stronger institutional support to combat economic and financial crimes.
