FG and APC Governors Donate N8bn to Kano Fire Victims

The Federal Government, alongside governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC), has pledged a total of N8 billion to assist victims of the devastating fire that occurred at Singer Market in Kano. Vice President Kashim Shettima disclosed the federal government's donation of N5 billion during a sympathy visit to the market, which suffered significant losses estimated in billions of naira due to the inferno that occurred on a Saturday.

Shettima described the incident as a national tragedy, expressing condolences to the victims and urging Allah to prevent future disasters of such magnitude. Accompanying him were governors from Jigawa, Kebbi, and Imo states, as well as Junaid Zakari, the chairman of the Singer Market Traders Association, who commended the federal government's timely gesture.

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf also announced an additional N3 billion donation from APC governors, confirming the commitment to support affected traders in reviving their businesses after the fire destroyed approximately 1,000 shops and kiosks in one of northern Nigeria's largest commodity hubs. Fire service authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
