FG Commends RCCG for $265,850 Donation for Evacuations

The Federal Government of Nigeria commended the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), led by Pastor Enoch Adeboye, for its donation of $265,850 aimed at evacuating 500 distressed Nigerians from South Africa. This donation will fund the purchase of one-way tickets for those seeking to return home due to renewed xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its spokesperson Oluwafemi Adeniyi, described the RCCG's intervention as a demonstration of compassion and solidarity towards Nigerians facing difficulties abroad. The ongoing evacuation, which began on June 10, 2026, has already seen 1,640 Nigerians return, with 1,385 sponsored by the government and 255 through philanthropic donations.

Currently, 202 Nigerians await final screening by South Africa's Department of Home Affairs. The Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria and the Consulate General in Johannesburg are actively assisting citizens wishing to return.

The government remains committed to addressing xenophobia and Afrophobia through engagement with South African authorities.
