FG Approves Framework to Electrify 30% Health Facilities

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a financing framework and institutional reforms aimed at electrifying at least 30% of health facilities nationwide by the end of 2027. This decision was made during the third meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Steering Committee (IMSC) of the Nigeria Power for Health Initiative (NPHI), which is jointly coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the Federal Ministry of Power.

Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, announced the approval of the financing framework and the endorsement of eight private sector proposals to expedite the initiative's implementation.

The initiative, established by President Bola Tinubu following the National Dialogue in December 2025, aims to ensure reliable 24-hour electricity in health facilities. The governance structure includes an interagency technical committee and facility energy management teams.

The initiative will be institutionalized through dedicated budget provisions and a project coordination unit.
